Brazil World Cup Songs: From A Taça do Mundo É Nossa to the Hexa Chase

Brazil has won five World Cups, in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002, and almost every title came with a song. Here are the ones Brazilians still sing, what they mean and where they came from.

A Taça do Mundo É Nossa (1958)

The title means "the World Cup is ours."

Wagner Maugeri, Lauro Müller, Maugeri Sobrinho and Victor Dagô wrote it in 1958 to celebrate Brazil's first world title, won in Sweden.

Pra Frente Brasil (1970)

"Forward, Brazil."

Miguel Gustavo wrote it for a contest run by the broadcast sponsors before the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, under the military government. The trombonist Raul de Souza later said he composed the melody.

1970 was the first World Cup Brazilians watched live on TV. Brazil won it, and Pra Frente Brasil became the soundtrack of that era.

Voa Canarinho (1982)

"Fly, little canary," after the team's nickname, Canarinho.

Its real title is Povo Feliz. Memeco and Nonô do Jacarezinho wrote it and Júnior, Brazil's left back at the 1982 World Cup, sang it. It sold more than 300,000 copies in about six weeks and went platinum, and TV coverage played it under Brazil's goals.

Coração Verde e Amarelo (1994)

"Green and yellow heart."

Tavito and Aldir Blanc wrote it and TV Globo launched it for the 1994 World Cup in the United States, which Brazil won for a fourth title. Globo still plays it over goals by both the men's and women's national teams.

Mas Que Nada

Jorge Ben wrote and recorded it in 1963. Sérgio Mendes made it famous abroad in 1966, and recorded it again with the Black Eyed Peas in 2006.

Its World Cup moment is Nike's 1998 airport ad, directed by John Woo, starring Ronaldo, Romário and Roberto Carlos. The ad used the Tamba Trio's 1963 recording.

Eu Sou Brasileiro: The Crowd Chant

The chant Brazil fans sing in the stands and the streets.

The Words:

"Eu sou brasileiro, com muito orgulho, com muito amor."

In English: "I am Brazilian, with much pride, with much love."

It began as a school chant by Nelson Biasoli, a teacher in Ribeirão Preto, and grew into a stadium staple.

The 2014 Home World Cup Songs

When Brazil hosted in 2014, the official records came from outside the country.

• We Are One (Ole Ola): Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and the Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte, the official song, criticized at home for its lack of Portuguese
• Dar um Jeito (We Will Find a Way): Carlos Santana and Wyclef Jean with Avicii and Alexandre Pires, the official anthem, in English and Portuguese
• La La La (Brazil 2014): Shakira with Carlinhos Brown, the second theme song, and a number one in Brazil

What Hexa Means

Hexa is short for hexacampeão, a sixth world title. Brazil fans call the chase "rumo ao hexa," toward the sixth.

The 2026 chase ended in the round of 16. Norway beat Brazil 2-1 at East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 5, 2026, with two late goals from Erling Haaland. Neymar scored a stoppage time penalty. Carlo Ancelotti stayed on as coach.
